Catharine Ray (Greene) Turner was born at Greene Farm, East Greenwich, Rhode Island and was married there to Doctor James Varnum Turner (also of East Greenwich) 27 August 1815.
The first of three of their children were born at Greene Farm. Subsequently Mr. and Mrs. Turner moved to Portsmouth for a short time for the doctor's practice and subsequently to #2 School Street, Newport, Rhode Island where they lived with Mr. Turner's elderly father (War of 1812 Surgeon Dr. Peter Turner).
