Robert M. Barlow Jr. went to be with his Lord on September 2, 2016. He was born on October 14, 1937 in Atmore, Alabama. He was the beloved son of Robert M. and Fannie Igou Barlow of Hermanville, MS.

Visitation will be Monday, September 5, 2016, at First Presbyterian Church in Hattiesburg from 9 a.m. until the service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Oloh Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was a loving husband and father, and in particular an inspiration to all who knew him in his last days as he exhibited the fruit of the Spirit through his hardest of times. Robert was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hattiesburg, having served as an elder. Prior to moving to Hattiesburg in 1998, Robert and his beloved wife Faye Carol Hall Barlow raised their family in Picayune, MS, where they lived for 27 years. Robert graduated from Mississippi State University in 1959 and served in the United States Army Reserves.

Robert retired from NASA in 1995 after a career that spanned 36 years. Robert’s assignments included work on the Apollo Space Program at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL, and his last assignment as Chief, Technology Utilization and Applications Division at John C. Stennis Space Center, Mississippi.

Robert had many interests including woodworking, growing Daylilies, and managing his family legacy tree farm in Claiborne County, MS. As an only child, Robert delighted in creating opportunity and space for his many children and grandchildren to come together. Family time was very important and we will carry special memories of those times with him.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Faye Carol Hall Barlow; 4 children: Robert M. Barlow III (Shan) of Crestwood, KY, Kathy Nelsen (Billy) of Lucedale, MS, Dr. Michael Ross Barlow (Polly Anna) of Birmingham, AL, and Dr. Jonathan Hall Barlow (Ann) of Starkville, MS.; 16 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, with one on the way.
