~ 1 June 1775 • He & Anthony Winston were elected as representatives to this session of the House of Burgesses where they listened to Patrick Henry deliver his "give me liberty or give me death" speech and raised regiments.
~ 6 May 1782 • Establishment of a town at the Courthouse in Buckingham County, Virginia: Ninety-six acres was designated to be "laid-off" into lots and streets. This tract of land was part of a large tract owned by John Cox. The General Assembly designated the trustees of this land & John Nicholas was one of these trustees.
~ 17 April 1794 • He wrote his last will and testament having his four sons act as his executor (John Jr, Joshua, George & Robert)
He was usually known as John Nicholas of Seven Islands.
Thomas Jefferson seems always to have had feelings of respect for him, and their legal and neighborly relations over a period of several decades were evidently amicable.
