George Nathan Gowins was born in what was then known as Otter Creek Township in Jersey County Illinois. He was a preacher in Boulder Colorado. On July 10th 1948 while preaching on a street corner, which he so often did, he closed his preaching, grabbed his chest and collapsed and died. He always told his sons that he wanted to "Die with his boots on". A week or two later his youngest son Jerry was in downtown Boulder when a man approached him. He asked if he was the young man that was with the guy who died, he said "yes". The guy smurked "yep, he died with his boots on." My father is Jerry, he shared this story with me and my son on a visit to the cemetery in 2001.
