Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Myers Chapel, Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, 225 E. Park St., Geneseo. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo, with military services by the American Legion. Visitation will be from noon until service time Friday at Myers Chapel. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
Arthur was born Feb. 20, 1921, in Phenix Township, Henry County, son of William L. and Beulah Bell Fones Painter. He graduated from Geneseo High School and went to California to study electrical engineering. Arthur was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Coast Guard and participating in enemy action at Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He was awarded two Bronze Stars.
After returning to Illinois, he was appointed Andover Township Road Commissioner until retiring in 1985. Arthur was a lifetime member of VFW Post 2056 and the American Legion Post 2006, both of East Moline. He enjoyed golfing and working with electronics.
Surviving are two brothers, Warren Painter, Geneseo, Frank Painter, East Moline; two sisters, Elnora Melody, Port Byron, and Beulah Ackerman, Dunedin, Fla. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. His parents, three sisters and three brothers preceded him in death.
