His father, Dr. Marshall, was a surgeon in the continental army and was on terms of intimacy with the family of Gen. George Washington, who was his nearest neighbor. About the year 1820 Judge Marshall came to this city and entered the law office of Roger Brooke Taney, who was afterwards Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. On completing his studies he became a member of the Frederick bar. With the exception of a few months at Georgetown, DC, he has resided in this city ever since.
In 1844 he was appointed associate judge of the circuit court, at that time embracing Frederick, Washington and Alleghany counties. He was succeeded by Hon. Madison Nelson in 1851.
In 1878 he became president of the Central National bank as successor to Col. Geo. R. Dennis.
He married Miss Harriet M. Potts, a daughter of Hon. Richard Potts, in 1826, who died in 1867.
He leaves an only daughter, Miss Ann P. Marshall who resided with her father on Counsel street.
Judge Marshall was a highly esteemed citizen and his death is deeply regretted by his numerous friends. He was a life member of the Independent and Junior Fire Companies.
The funeral will take place tomorrow evening at six o'clock from his late residence. The interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
