ETTRICK, Wis. (Special)-- The 84th birthday of Odell Oakland was observed Friday. Mr. Oakland was born Nov. 4, 1871, on the Oakland homestead in the Town of Franklin where . he has spent his entire life.

His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Amund Oakland/Auckland (1827) were immigrants from Norway more, than 100 years ago. His mother was Kari Halvorson. Note: also referred to as Aanund Amundson.

He was married to Josie Thompson in 1905 in Jackson County. She was daughter of Ingrid, sister of Martin, Alfred, Olaf, Emil and others. She died in 1909.

He was married to Clara Olson, a native of Norway, in 1915. He has a sister, Mrs. Bessie Tow, Rushville ND who is 92, and he has three daughters,
1. Lucinda, Mrs. Hans Morken, Safford, Ariz.; (1906-1997)
2. Alice, Mrs. Matthew Baker, Blair, and
3. Christine, Mrs. Joseph Nelsestuen, La Crosse, and nine grandchildren. Due to the failure of his hearing and arthritis, he is confined to his home.

Was Joseph Oakland his son?

Note: October 1958, daughter Lucinda Morken and family returned to Blair, bought her mother's farm.

Wife's obit

On June 3, 1915 she was married to a widower, Odell Oakland. They lived on the Oakland homestead in North Beaver Creek until his death in 1958.

She is survived by three daughters, Alice (Mrs. Matt Baker) of Wausau; Christine (Mrs. Joseph Nelsestuen) of LaCrosse and Lucinda (Mrs. Hans Morken) of rural Ettrick; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
