John Elam Gay was born to John Enoch Gay and Nancy Newell Gay on Jan 3, 1886, in Dangerfield, Texas. He married Alden Brine Carlton in 1913. They had 7 children, 3 daughters and 4 sons. They lived at Union Hill, Oklahoma, in 1945 when they decided to move to California. John, my grandfather was called "Boots". He played fiddle and his brother Cleve played guitar back in Oklahoma. They provided a lot of music for a lot of dancers. After he moved to California he played his fiddle along with Eddy Arnold, etc. on records. One son, Leon, preceded him in death, being killed in action during WWII. He had to deliver the news to my mother when I was 5 years old. He had 19 grandchildren.
