Hester Ann Parks was born on June 18, 1819 "near Bangor, Maine" according to her obituary. She was the daughter of George Washington Parks and Rebecca (Morton) Parks. She was the 3rd daughter of this couple. Her parents left Maine about 1825 and settled in Ohio- first around Zanesville, later in Licking County. On August 3, 1837, Hester married Jesse Hoover in Licking County. The Hoover's went on to have at least three children:John B Hoover (1838-1923), Charles W. Hoover (Abt 1846- before 1904), and George M. Hoover (b 1848-d.1927).

Hester Hoover passed away on May 18, 1904 at the age of 84 years and 11 months. She was interred in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Newark.

OBITUARY
HESTER A. HOOVER

Mrs. Hester A. Hoover, for 79 years a resident of Newark, quietly passed away at 7 o'clock Wednesday morning, after years of suffering and illness. She was 85 years of age, and had been more or less for over twenty years. Born in Maine, she came to Newark with her parents when only 6 years old, and has always resided in this city. In 1837 she married Jesse Hoover, the latter dying in 1885. Five children were born, two sons surviving and residing in Newark. These are John and Charles, the latter of whom conducts a livery stable on East Main Street.

Mrs. Hoover was well known in this county. But few people have lived as long in Newark as did Mrs. Hoover. She had many relatives in the county and was related to many Newark people, although practically all of her relatives have passed away.

Early in life she joined the Baptist church, affiliating with this denomination through life.

The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at the home at 122 West Locust at 2 o'clock. The interment will take place at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

John B. Hoover and Charles W. Hoover have been appointed executors of the last will and testament of Hester A. Hoover, deceased.
