Selma Larso

Selma (Thornberg) Larson was born on December 12, 1918, and passed away December 3, 2014. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Selma was born in Tors?, Sweden to Oskar Hermann Thornberg and Selma Persson Thornberg. Selma was always very proud of her Swedish heritage. She moved to Tacoma with her family in 1926. Selma graduated from Stadium High School in 1938, and Tacoma General Nursing School in 1941 and became a Registered Nurse. She served in the US Army Nurse Corps in England and Germany during WWII. After the war she worked at Tacoma General Hospital and also did private duty nursing. In 1946 she married Rodney Larson, and they shared many happy years together. Selma was an adventurer who loved being outdoors. She and Rod enjoyed many hours fishing on lakes, Puget Sound, and out of Westport. Working in her flower gardens gave her much pleasure, especially her rose garden. Family was the ultimate priority in her life, and her love of animals knew no bounds! Cats, dogs, horses, and birds were always a part of the family. She was preceded in death by her husband Rodney and her sister Henrietta Faulk. She is survived by daughter Carole (Jim) Nagan, son Jim (Therese Piecynzki) Larson, and daughter Judy Larson (Gary MacDonald). She is also survived by her 5 grandchildren, Jeremiah LeGrue, Jessica LeGrue, Erica Larson, Nigel Larson, and Zachary MacDonald, 7 great-grandchildren, and countless nieces and nephews. Donations can be made to the Pierce County Humane Society or a charity of your choice. Services will be held in the Chambers Creek Chapel at New Tacoma Cemetery at 1:00pm on Sunday, December 14, 2014.
