FUNERAL OF MAJOR HANNEGAN
Will be Conducted by Father Ryan at Dr. Maxey's Home.
Major Sellman Hannegan, for many years doorkeeper of the diplomatic gallery of the Senate and one of the most widely known attaches of the Capitol, died yesterday at the residence of Dr. Frederick Maxey, where he has lived several years.
Mr. Duncan Hannegan, a son of Major Hannegan, has been a member of a field party of the United States Geological survey working near Denison, Tex. He was also telegraphed of his father's illness, and arrived here today, when arrangements for the funeral were made. The services will be held privately tomorrow at the residence of Dr. Maxey. Interment will be made at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Major Hannegan was born near Covington, Ind., in 1829. He was the son of Senator Edward A. Hannegan of Indiana, who died in St. Louis thirty eight years ago. The deceased was a descendant of one of the most famous of Indiana families, and the tragic story of his life is a most interesting one. His son, Ned Hannegan was accidentally killed some years ago near Old Point Comfort. The deceased has been connected with the Senator since 1876 and was thrown in contact with all the prominent statesmen and diplomats since that time.
