Adrian is a Civil War Veteran. He enlisted in the 14th Independent Ohio Volunteer Light Artillery on Aug. 20, 1861, and was mustered in on Sept. 10, 1861 as a Wagoneer. On Jan. 21, 1862 he was promoted to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant, officially mustered out and transferred to the 15th Independent Ohio Volunteer Light Artillery on Feb. 2, 1862. He resigned his commission and was mustered out on Dec. 14, 1862. He enlisted in Co. M, 2nd Ohio Volunteer Heavy Artillery with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant on Aug. 29, 1863 and was mustered in on Sept. 9, 1863. He was promoted to the rank of 1st Lieutenant on Aug. 19, 1864. He was mustered out with his company on Aug. 23, 1865 at Nashville, TN.
