A 1942 graduate of the Citadel who during World War II became it’s most highly decorated graduate. He was the commander of "Easy Company" of the 77th Infantry Division and earned the Distinguished Service Cross, the Silver Star and two Bronze Stars. One of his command missions during the battle of Okinawa was to take Ishimmi Ridge. His company attacked the ridge and after a prolonged battle held the ridge. Out of the 200 men he commanded only 22 came back down the ridge.
