The girls, age 9 and 11, who were riding in back, escaped with minor injuries. The girls are the daughters of a neighboring rancher.
The brakes on the vehicle apparently failed as it was headed down a steep incline toward the ranch buildings. Adams was knocked from the vehicle as it crashed through the shed. His wife remained inside the jeep as its momentum then carried it into the side of the nearby ranch house. Bodies of the two victims were taken to Citizen's Mortuary in Ferndale.
The girls reported the accident to the Humboldt County sheriff's office which is turn notified the California highway patrol
