Her father, Fletcher Mathews Haight, was Judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of California, to which he was appointed in 1861 by President Abraham Lincoln and which he held until his death. Her brother, Henry Huntley Haight, was Governor of California 1867-1871. Her mother, Elizabeth Stuart (McLachlan), is a descendant of the Cameron of Lochiel.
