Mrs. Mary Baker Patteson, of Springfield, died yesterday at the residence following an illness of one month. She was 81 years old.
Mrs. Patteson, widow of Walter Lewis Patteson, well-known journalist of Springfield, was a great-niece of Mary Todd Lincoln. Mr. Patteson, at the time of his death in 1926, was an editorial writer on the Illinois State Register. He also was employed on the Illinois State Journal and the old Springfield Monitor, many years ago.
Mrs. Patteson was born Sept. 13, 1866, at McDermott, Nev., the daughter of the late Col. and Mrs. John Pope Baker. She was married in 1887 and resided in Springfield most of her life. She was a member of St. Paul's cathedral.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Mabel Wehrenberg and Miss Frances W. Patteson, of Springfield, and Miss Florence J. Patteson, of Washington, D. C.; one son, Walter A. of Baltimore, Md.; two sisters, Misses Mabel and Florence Baker, Springfield; two brothers, Maj. Francis J. Baker, Atlanta, Ga., and Lincoln T. Baker, of East St. Louis; eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be tomorrow at Thomas C. Smith Sons funeral chapel. Burial will be in the family lot at Oak Ridge cemetery.
