Lawyer,Judge and politician from Kentucky and one of twenty-eight men who founded the Kentucky Republican Party.His brother-in-law, William O'Connell Bradley and son both became Governors of Kentucky.
He served in both houses of the Kentucky General Assembly. During the Civil War, he was Lieutenant Colonel. He raised and commanded the 32nd Kentucky Infantry Regiment of the Union Army. After the war,he served seventeen years as a Circuit Court Judge for Kentucky's 8th district. He was a delegate and Presidential Elector to the Republican National Convention. He was chosen as the Republican nominee for Governor of Kentucky.He served as chair of the Republican State Central Committee. He was elected Circuit Court Judge for Kentucky's 8th Judicial district. He also served one term as County Attorney at Pulaski County Ky and one term as State Senator from his senatorial district.He was also a member of the Somerset Elks Lodge and a charter member of the Somerset Odd Fellows Lodge. Marker in his honor has been erected in Bardstown, Kentucky and in Nelson County. Marker can be reached from Federal Hill Manor near Old Bloomfield Pike.
