US Senator. He was elected as a Senator from Ohio to the United States Senate, serving from from 1814 to 1815. He was elected twice to the Ohio State Senate and four times to the Ohio House. Served as a General of Ohio volunteers during the War of 1812. He was appointed to replace Thomas Worthington when Worthington resigned from the United States Senate. He lost his extensive farm in Ohio due to bankruptcy moving first to Memphis and then to Louisiana where he was a planter when he died.
