Born in Providence, a son of the late John E. and Ella (Anderson) Anderson, he served in the United States Army during World War II with the Headquarters Battery 277th Field Artillery Battalion. He was a tool maker & machinist employed by Gorham Manufacturing for almost 50 years retiring as Foreman of the Machine Shop.
He was a member of Harmony Lodge 9 F&AM, Cranston; Scottish Rite Valley of Providence and the Rhode Island Shriners. He was a former member of the Church of the Transfiguration, Cranston. He loved to play bridge; enjoyed playing golf and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. He is being remembered by his family as a faithful, sweet and gentle man.
He is survived by one daughter: Christine A. Sirr of North Kingstown; two sons: James H. Anderson of Wilbraham, MA and John E. Anderson of Chagrin Falls, OH; seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. He was the father of the late Walter M. Anderson, Jr. and the brother of the late Lloyd Anderson and Margit Miller-Smith.
His funeral service was held on Monday, January 6, 2014 at Quidnessett Baptist Church, North Kingstown. Burial with military honors followed in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Alzheimer's Association Rhode Island, 245 Waterman Street, Suite 306, Providence, RI 02906.
