John Thomas Poindexter, 66 of Roanoke, passed away Friday, December 27, 2013. He is fondly remembered as a loving father, a close friend and brother, and a beloved uncle and papa. John served in the U.S. Navy from 1965 to 1969. He was preceded in death by his parents, Zeb and Mary Poindexter, and a brother, Dennis Brady Poindexter. Surviving to cherish his memories are his daughter and son-in-law, Tonya and Joe Nichols, brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Kristy Poindexter, a sister and brother-in-law, Teresa and Billy Jones, and two grandsons, Deason and Lanson Nichols. He is also survived by nieces, Amy Poindexter and her son, Brandon; Julie Poindexter and her daughter Laney; Kelsey and Kayla Jones; and numerous cousins and other relatives. Funeral service will be held at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel 12:00 PM, Tuesday, December 31, 2013 with Monsignor Thomas Miller officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Evergreen Burial Park
