Son of the late James Richard & Catherine (Ball) Beers He was married to Sherry Lou (Llewellyn) Beers on September 3, 1965 - she survives.
He served in the U.S. Army Reserves, E-6, A Battery 4th Battalion, 8th Field Artillery, 99th ARCOM.
He was employed at Jackson China for 3 years. He later became a member of the Sandy Township Police Department and served as Chief.
He was a member of the Mount Zion United Methodist Church, where he held several offices.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Jefferson Lodge, Northwest Police Chiefs Association, Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police, Laurel Ridge Homeland Association, Freedom ATV Search and Rescue, American Legion Post 945 of DuBois and the Pennsylvania Forestry (DCNR) - he was a Forest Fire Warden.
He served as Chief of the Sandy Township Fire Department and the West Sandy Volunteer Fire Company. He was past President and held various offices in the West Sandy Township Fireman's Club. He served as past President and held various offics in the Sandy Township Volunteer Fire Company Board and Relief Association.
He was an avid hunter and liked to travel and ride four-wheelers.
He had recently undergone a liver transplant at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center - and had also suffered a heart attack - throughout his medical difficulties he was always upbeat and had a smile for everyone.
In addition to his wife he is survived by: three sons - Richard Calvin Beers of Rockton, Randy Allen Beers and William Alan Beers, both of DuBois; one brother, George Albert Beers of Reynoldsville; three sisters - Catherine Henneman and Martha Beam both of DuBois and Edith Rhines of Brookville; nine grand-children and one great-grandchild.
His burial was with full military honors accorded by the DuBois Area Honor Guard. The family suggest memorials to the Starzl Transplant Institue at UPMC-Montefiore in Pittsburgh, DRMC Heart Center in DuBois, West Sandy Volunteer Fire Company in DuBois or the Mount Zion United United Methodist Church of DuBois.
Chief Beers was a fine upstanding person, an excellent police officer,Police Chief and Fire Chief, and a devout Christian. Always quick with a smile and a hearty laugh. I had the privelege of having him for a friend.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by five brothers, Robert, James, John and Harry Drum and James Beers Jr.; and one sister Marie Bochert.
