Son of Doctor John Campbell White.

Obituary, Baltimore Sun, November 11, 1867: "Death of an Old Citizen.--Joseph White, Esq., died on Saturday afternoon, at his residence in this city, at the age of 76 years. The deceased held in former years many positions of honor and public confidence. General Jackson, in his days of struggle with the United States Bank, selected him as one of its directors. He was made commissioner to build the public warehouse corner of Gay and Lombard streets, by President VanBuren; was appointed navy agent at Baltimore by President Polk, and held the office of judge of appeal tax court under Mayor Stansbury. He was director in the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company, Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Company, Mechanics' Bank, and other public institutions. In 1853, President Pierce appointed him appraiser in the New York custom house, and subsequently he became deputy collector at that port, which office he held till the late war broke out, when he returned to his old home in Baltimore, where he quietly resided till his decease. Mr. White was the son of Dr. John Campbell White, so closely identified with Baltimore in its early days, and was the father of the Hon. Campbell W. Pinkney, one of the newly elected Judges of the Supreme Bench."
