U.S. Senator. Immigrating to America, in 1888, he settled in Rawlins, Wyoming and raised sheep. Moving to Casper, Wyoming, in 1892, he engaged in banking, the production of oil and various other business interests. Entering politics, he was a member of the Wyoming State House of Representatives, (1894 to 1896, 1898 to1900) and Mayor of Casper, Wyoming, (1897 to 1898). In 1929, he was appointed as a Republican to the U.S. Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Francis E. Warren, serving until 1930. Not a candidate for reelection, he resumed his previous business pursuits until his death while on a visit in California.
