Mrs. Eliza Twining Waldo
Died September 23, 1916
---------------------

Mrs. Eliza Twining Waldo, one of the oldest residents of Lewis County, and a woman that was held in high regard by a large circle old friends, died at 10 o'clock Saturday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Daniel E. Brown, Stowe Street, in this village. Notwithstanding her more than 91 years of age, Mrs. Waldo enjoyed fairly good bodily health, with a mind undimmed, and a cheerful, contented disposition to the end of life. She was taken ill last Thursday evening, and the end came calm and peacefully, in true harmony with her long life, on Saturday evening

Mrs. Waldo was a daughter of the late Joseph and Rachel Twining and was born in Champion, February 4, 1825. At the age of 19 she united in marriage with Mortimer Waldo, of Rutland, who died 19 years ago. Four children were born to them, only one of whom survives, Mrs. Daniel E. Brown, of Lowville. Mr. and Mrs. Waldo were for many years engaged in farming in the towns of Champion, Rutland, Harrisburg and Pickney, and following the death of Mr. Waldo, the deceased for many years resided with her daughter in Copenhagen village. Following the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Brown, fourteen years ago the coming month, Mrs. Waldo came to Lowville to reside with them, and the latter years of her life, like those that preceded, were marked by the most kindly care and consideration. Over 70 years ago Mrs. Waldo united with the Copenhagen Methodist church, and since taking up her residence in Lowville she transferred her membership to the local church. She was a kind-hearted and lovable Christian woman, ever thoughtful of those near and dear, pure in heart and thought, and her passing brings grief to many who will cherish her memory. No brothers, sisters or near relatives survive.

The funeral services were held yesterday from the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel E. Brown, Stowe Street. Rev. Smith W. Brown, pastor of the Methodist church, officiating. Interment was made in the Champion cemetery.
