He was a son of the late United States Senator George Vickers and his wife, Mary Mansfield. He was married on May 22, 1873, to Miss Jennie B. Y. Shemwell of St. Mary's county.

Mr. Vickers was admitted to the bar while the Hon. Joseph A. Wickes was on the bench & was specially successful as a criminal lawyer. He was elected State's Attorney without opposition and filled that position for two full terms from 1875 to 1883. At the time of his death he was a Visitor of Washington College, which position he had filled for nearly thirty years, and he was President of Chester Cemetery, the land for which had been given to Chestertown by his late father.

He died at his home, "Lauretum Place," near Chestertown, Md. His funeral took place from his late home, interment in Chester cemetery, Dr. L.E. Barrett, officiating. Surviving were his widow & six children, Jennie B. Robinson, of Los Angeles, Cal.; George Vickers of New York; Harrison W. Vickers, Jr.: Corinne Bruce Elliott, of Baltimore city; Clara V. Perkins and Rose E. Vickers.

From "Kent News," Chestertown, Md., December 23, 1911:

The wedding of Miss Rebecca Brown Eliason and Harrison W. Vickers, Jr., Esq., will take place at the Chestertown M. E. Church Wednesday, Dec. 27th. owing to the family of groom being in mourning because of death of father only immediate family will be present. No cards. The bride and groom will be at home to their friends in their new home on Washington Avenue after February 1st.
