Frances Carpenter was born 26 Jan 1771 in Deep Creek community of Surry Co, NC (now Yadkin County).

Frances, known as "Franky," was born and christened with a German name, "Maria Phrone Zimmerman," and it was recorded as such in the Moravian Records, and gave her birth date and that she was a child of Mathias and Elizabeth. This record was discovered by Linda S. Watford (deceased) at the Moravian Archives in Winston-Salem, NC.

Year on headstone (1755) is the birth year cited elsewhere for Frances's mother, and is inconsistent with the birth years of Frances's children.
