William DeZeng Houghteling was the seventh child and second son of Dr James Houghteling and Ernestine DeZeng. He became the husband of Marcia Elizabeth Stockbridge, the daughter of Dr John Stockbridge of Bath and Eliza Russell. They were married on 16 Nov 1853 and had six children:

* William b 1865

William was a wealthy timber baron who came to Chicago in 1844, a pioneer lumber merchant and president of the Chicago Board of Trade in 1855. William was quoted as "taken an active interest in field sports and in his 76th year still rides to hounds."
