Eleanor "Nora" Saltonstall, (1894–1919), volunteered with several organizations in France during World War I, becoming a chauffeur for the Red Cross in July 1918. For her service she earned the French military decoration Croix de Guerre for service under fire.
Nora died at age 24 of typhoid fever contracted during a trip with friends to the west coast of the United States.
