Thomas Devane King married Ann Jones daughter of Nathaniel Jones. There is a Nathaniel Jones of Sampson County who was a RWS and had a large family by his first and second wife.
Although there are Nathaniel Jones & William King's listed in the 1790 Census of Wake County, NC, these Devane's and King families were from New Hanover, Sampson, Duplin Counties. There were also Jones and King families in that area, too.
Thomas Devane King served in the Legislature of NC representing Sampson Co., NC in the 1804, 1805 and 1812 sessions. There was a Kimbrough Jones that also was serving in the NC Legislature at the same time from Wake Co. The two became friends and Kimbrough introduced Thomas to his sister, Ann (Nancy Ann). According to family and friends, it was love at first sight , but they were not married until 11 Sept. 1827. From Raleigh Register of 14 Sept 1827: "...Col. Thomas King of Sampson County married Nancy Jones of Wake County...".
They had 2 children:
(1.)William Thomas King(1829-1862) who was killed at the Battle of Manassas in VA. This original marker is supposedly in Archives & History.
(2.) Margaret William King who married Dr. William Augustine Jones of Alabama. # 68711153 and # 172214933.
Probate Court Minutes, Tuscaloosa Co., AL Pg.62, 1854-1858. On Oct.30, 1854 William T. King made application for letters of Administration on estate of his father, Thomas D. King, deceased. Mrs. Nancy King, widow declined her right to administration.
