Anne Fairclough Mansfield, age 74, died on April 24, 2013 at the Washington Home and Hospice in the District. She had suffered a fall following a stroke at her home in the District.
Anne was a native of Missoula, Montana. An only child, she was the daughter of the late U.S. Senate Majority Leader and U.S. Ambassador to Japan, Mike Mansfield and his wife, Maureen Hayes Mansfield. She is survived by her daughter, Caroline Theresa Hayes Marris of London; many cousins and friends in Washington, DC and London. She was divorced from the late Robin Marris, PhD of London.
Anne was a graduate of Marymount School and High School in Arlington, VA. She was a junior Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Smith College, who spent her junior year studying in Spain.
Anne divided her time between London and Washington. In Washington, she was a member of St. Mary Mother of God Catholic Church. Anne was a brilliant raconteur, a strong political conservative, a dedicated Catholic and a devoted mother. She is survived by many loyal friends all over the world.
Requiem Mass in the Extraordinary Form will be celebrated at St. Mary's, located at 727 Fifth Street, N.W., Washington, DC 20001 on Friday, May 3 at 10 a.m. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the Funeral Mass at the church.
Burial will follow at Congressional Cemetery, Washington, DC.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Anne's name to St. Mary Mother of God Church for the purchase of traditional vestments.
