Rev. James Gwin was a pioneer Methodist minister, who served under the prominent Rev. William McKendree, America's first native born Methodist bishop. He was a close friend of President Andrew Jackson. He is NOT known to have had a middle name or middle initial in his name (i.e. not James A. Gwin, etc.). Jesse Blaine Gwin wrote the book "The History of the Gwin Family", and he added the "A" to Rev. James Gwin's name, and after that the error has been passed down from one person to another.
Rev. James Gwin died at his own residence, near Vicksburg, Warren County, Mississippi.
