DEATH OF MRS. SCHMIDT. Passed Away This Afternoon After A Short Illness. Resident of the Islands from Childhood - Was a Model Wife and a Devoted Mother. Mrs. Mary Ann Schmidt, wife of Senator H.W. Schmidt, died at the family residence on Beretania Street at about 12:30 this afternoon. She had been ill but a short while, and up to last Sunday, when a delicate surgical operation became necessary, was not considered to be in a precarious condition. The funeral will take place from the residence at 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. H.H. Williams will conduct it. Mrs. Schmidt, whose maiden name was Weight, was born at Woolwich, England, on January 17, 1855, or a little more than 43 years ago. She came to the Islands when a mere child. Her marriage to Mr. Schmidt was solemnized on October 20, 1874. Deceased leaves seven children, five sons and three daughters. They are: Will T., Henry C., Ernest F., Marie M., Wilhelmina Isabella, Paul O., and August M. Besides she leaves a mother and sister at Hilo and four brothers in the Islands. George Weight, one of her brothers, is manager of Kahuku plantation. Charles is a partner in the business house on King street. Mrs. Schmidt was well known in the Islands and had many friends. She was a true wife and an affectionate mother. Her management of the home was perfect. The blow has fallen very hard upon the immediate household. Mrs. Schmidt's Funeral. Services to be Held at the House This Afternoon. The final obsequies over the remains of Mrs. Mary Schmidt, whose sudden death yesterday [March 15, 1898] cast a gloom over the city, will be held at 3 o'clock this afternoon.
