Warner Wallace was born July 9, 1796, in Virginia to Michael Wallace, Jr. and Agnes (Nancy) Shannon. He was married to Miriam McKee Lapsley. Wallace was the grandfather of Miriam Amanda "Ma" Ferguson and an Indian fighter. He died January 5, 1870, in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He was originally buried in Montopolis Cemetery in Travis County, Texas before being reinterred in the State Cemetery.

Wallace's old headstone reads: Sacred to the Memory of Warner Wallace Born July 9th 1798, Died Jan. 5th 1870, Aged 71 Y. 5 M. & 26 d.
