In 1924, at the age of 24, she married Hugh Doggett Scott Jr. of Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, Virginia.
They adopted one daughter, Marnie. Celebrated over 50 years of marriage, and were a very loving couple. Considered a political "power team" their affection and fondness for each other, was widely known.
She died at 87 years old, prior to her husband Hugh Doggett Scott in Washington DC. On his grave marker his epitaph is a reflection of his deep love and affection for her: "My love for my wife is eternal."
