James Carroll McMillan, Sr., 90, widower of Esther "Jacky" McMillan of Seabrook Point, died Tuesday, August 7, 2012 in Serenity Hospice House of Dublin, Georgia. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at 11:00am in Harmony Presbyterian Church in Crocketville, South Carolina. Interment in the churchyard with military honors. The family will receive friends at the church. Mr. McMillan was born on May 9, 1922 in Charleston, SC. He was the second of five sons of the late Congressman Thomas Sanders and Clara Gooding McMillan. He served our country in the US Navy during World War II, met his wife of sixty-four years during the war, and returned to South Carolina to raise their family on the old family plantation in Allendale. He retired as a health physicist from the Savannah River Plant and moved to Beaufort in 1985. He attended St. Peter's Catholic Church and was a member of the USS Yorktown CV-10 Association and the National Rifle Association. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his son, James Carroll McMillan, Jr., and a daughter, Nancy Gooding McMillan. He is survived by three daughters, Carol McMillan Padgett(Kenny) of Barnwell, SC, Mary "Webby" McMillan Dyches(Tim) of Beaufort, and Terry McMillan Kennedy of Dublin, Georgia; Two brothers, Robert H. McMillan(Betty) of Ulmer, SC and William G. McMillan(Betty) of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; fourteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Harmony Presbyterian Church, General Delivery, Crocketville, SC 29913 or Serenity Hospice Foundation, 510 Belleview Ave., Dublin, Georgia 31021. Anderson Funeral Home of Beaufort is serving the family.
