Vermont Schoolteacher. She was educated at the Tilden Female Seminary of Lebanon, New Hampshire and received her teaching qualification. She resided outside Vermont for twenty eight years while she taught in various cities and towns, with the majority of her career spent at institutions for the blind in Janesville, Wisconsin and Indianapolis, Indiana. In 1887 she married Jonathan Ross, a longtime Justice of the Vermont Supreme Court who served as an interim U.S. Senator from 1899 to 1900. She was killed in an accident while on a sleigh ride with her husband. While waiting at a crossing, their horse was frightened by the noise of a train and dashed between two cars. The sleigh was demolished, Mrs. Ross was killed instantly, and Mr. Ross was severely injured. He died in the hospital a day or two later.
