The following Obituary and Funeral Notice appeared in The Wheeling Daily Intelligencer on June 26, 1865, almost a year following his death, he was laid to rest.
DIED
In battle, near Winchester, Va., July 24th, 1864, Lieut. A.W. Cotts.
Funeral from the residence of his father, Isaac Cotts, this morning at 10 o'clock. The friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend.
FUNERAL NOTICE
Officers and soldiers of the 15th W.Va. Inft., are hereby requested to attend the funeral of Lieut. Andrew Cotts, from the residence of his father on Market Street, at 11 a.m., this 26th of June. Company H will assemble at the Custom House at 8-1/2 a.m., in full uniform and report to Capt. Porter.
