Johnny went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 14, 2012 in a Lawton hospital.
Inurnment will be in the Springhill Cemetery under the direction of Becker Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Snyder.
He was born February 28, 1934 South of Cooperton, Oklahoma to Joseph and Ida (Childress) Newton. He served in the US Army, 6th Battalion Honor Guard Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, until he left to help his family. Johnny was a very successful businessman, farmer and rancher. He owned Indiahoma Lumber Company and Newton Construction. He was also the President of the Indiahoma School Board for many years. Johnny was a gifted musician and handcrafted guitars, played with a band, Armadillo Express, and most recently played with Calvin Gipson. He was a patron of the musical arts and mentor to many.
Survivors include his wife Lydia Newton of the home, a son Matthew Newton of Roosevelt, OK, two grandchildren, Jonathan Gage Newton of Lawton, Joseph Dillon Newton of Lawton, two step-children, Ricky Doyle and wife Debbie and their two children Meagan and Cole of Waco, TX, Jeanna Woods and her two children, Lydia and Dante of Frederick, OK, a sister Lea Young of Tulsa, OK and many special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Jeanette (Kopp) Newton, daughter Debbie Newton, a brother Joseph W. Newton, and two sisters, Mable Harrison and Clyda Brower.
