Mrs. Phyllis Bantham Smith, 69, of 107 Sunset Ave., Penn Yan, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 1984, at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday March 4, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Vincent Scotto officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark's Episcopal Church or Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital. Arrangements were made by Weldon Funeral Home.
Mrs. Smith was born Dec. 25, 1914, at Ballston Spa, daughter of Harry and Eleanor Hemphill Bantham. She was a graduate of the Long Island College School of Nursing. She received a BS degree in public health nursing from New York University. She had been employed as an RN for the New York City School System, a visiting nurse for Onondaga County, and had worked at the Harrisburg Hospital, and was a public health nurse with the Ontario County Health Department. She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church and the Lakeside Country Club.
Surviving are her Husband, E. Payson Smith; a stepson, Edward Payson Smith III of Fayetteville, Ark; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Clara Louise Pickle of Trumann, Ark., three brothers, Harry Bantham of New Paltz, Andrew Bantham of Hillsborough, N.C., and J. Alfred Bantham of Lake George; two sisters, Mrs. Angeline Lethbridge of Bolton Landing and Mrs. Eleanor Johnson of New Paltz; five step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews; and grandnieces and grandnephews.
