BURRILLVILLE- Rosalie R. (Wahl) Gagnon, 91, of Pascoag, died peacefully after a short illness, Oct. 24, 2013 in the Home & Hospice Care Center, Providence. She was the wife of the late George O. Gagnon, and daughter of the late John and Cecilia (Thomann) Wahl.
Born in Bellingham, MA, she spent most of her younger life with her grandparents, Mr & Mrs Emil Thomann; she also met her husband, George, there. Living most of her married life in Burrillville, George & Rosalie were married 68 years.
She was a graduate of Burrillville High School and attended RI Junior College. She worked as a Bookkeeper for nearly 30 years, in Pascoag, Mapleville and Woonsocket before retiring in 1984, to devote more time to her Art Studies. She completed a two year course with Art Instruction of Minn, also studied at various workshops throughout New England with other well known Artists. She taught adult and children classes for Woonsocket Fine Arts, and Burrillville Art Association. Rosalie was the recipient of numerous local, state and national awards. She was a member of the Woonsocket Fine Arts, Blackstone Valley Arts, Attleboro Museum and the RI Watercolor Society. She also was a founding member of the Humane Association of Northwestern RI, where she served as Treasurer and Bookkeeper for 16 years. Rosalie helped organize the Cub Scouts and Brownies of Pascoag when her children were young. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church, Pascoag.
She is survived by a son, Robert A. Gagnon of Marietta, GA, two daughters, Phyllis A. Gagnon-Brown of Murphy, NC, and Patricia H. McGovern of South County, eight grandchildren, Kelly, Aaron, Todd, Jared, Brett, Jeremy, Lauren and Rachel, seventeen great grandchildren, and a sister Jane C. Austin of Fitchburg, MA. She was the sister of the late Theresa L. Wahl, John Wahl Jr. and Frederick Wahl.
