He then enlisted in Harrisburg October 14, 1862, mustered into federal service there October 19 as a musician with Battery C, 3rd Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery (152nd Pa), and honorably discharged with his company Ocotber 19, 1865.
He married married Ellen J. Grissinger January 13, 1870, and fathered Olive Pearl (b. 06/19/70 - married Israel C. Wertz), Daisy V. (b. 03/03/72 - married William H. Cocklin), Roy G. (b. 10/19/78), and Mearl Jacob (b. 06/29/80). In 1890, he lived in Upper Allen Township, Cumberland County.
