Add PhotosPanteón Municipal #1 was established during the latter half of the 19th century. In 1881, it initiated an expansion with an additional cemetery known as Panteón Municipal #2, aiming to accommodate the growing demand for burial plots.
By the close of the 19th century, the cemetery grounds had extended to cover eight city blocks bordered by Aramberri, Bravo, Tapia, and Venustiano Carranza streets. A segment of this expanse came to be known as "Civil Cemetery Number 3."
Both cemeteries ceased operations in 1959 under the directive of Governor Raúl Rangel Frías, who ordered their closure and the relocation of remains. However, it's worth noting that not all bodies were transferred to other existing cemeteries.
This decision paved the way for the development of various educational facilities in the vicinity of Venustiano Carranza avenue, where the Escuela Normal Superior del Estado is presently situated.
