Täby parish is one of Sweden's richest with runestones. Most of the stones are from the 11th century, the century in which it is assumed that the "white Christ doctrine" became official in Uppland. Probably a wooden church was built in Täby then, but nothing is known about it. The current whitewashed gray stone church was built in the middle of the 13th century. Since the nave and the sacristy are not connected, it has been assumed that the sacristy was built at the turn of the century. Another theory is that it originates from an older wooden church. It was not uncommon for a wooden church to be provided with a stone sacristy, which was safer from a fire and burglary point of view.
Sometime between 1425 and 1460, the church received a nave, which was decorated on the inside with frescoes by an unknown master. The outer portal is original and consists of a tarred, richly iron-clad oak door. The four cross arches of the nave were built around 1475. In the 1480s, Albertus Pictor's workshop provided walls and arches with paintings. The vaults have never been whitewashed and they are partly one of Albertus Pictor's best quality painting suites. The church's central cult image is the Grace Chair, which is located in the vault above the altar. In Albertus Pictor's reinterpretation of the motif, the Father holds the dead Son in his bosom so that the arms of Christ form a cross. The most famous motif of the Täby paintings, Death plays chess with a knight, is found in the west vault.
The altar cabinet is from the 1470s and its main stage is a Calvary group. It is flanked by sculptures by Olof the Holy and a bishop. Below it are four scenes from the history of passion and in the wings are the twelve apostles. The backs have paintings depicting the Eucharist, Mary's death, Marie's coronation and Gregory's Mass. The pulpit from the 1630s, originally sat in the castle chapel at the castle Tre Kronor. To the right of the altar is a tombstone from 1345. During 1993 and 1994, the church room underwent a thorough restoration under the direction of the architect Uno Söderberg. Among other things, the chalk paintings were cleaned and a new bench interior was added.
The church and churchyard have graves dating back to medieval times including 15 graves within the church itself.
